Sunday lunch, unhurried
We are in Butlers Cross, a few minutes from Wendover and an easy drive from Aylesbury, Great Missenden and Amersham — close enough to be worth the trip on a Sunday, far enough out that it feels like you have gone somewhere.
A traditional Sunday roast should take as long as it takes. Stay for one course or settle in for the afternoon; nobody is going to move you on. It suits a family table, a proper catch-up with friends, or a walk up Coombe Hill with a roast waiting at the bottom of it.
Walk-ins are welcome and we will squeeze you in if we possibly can. But Sunday is our busiest service of the week and we do sell out, so booking is the safer bet.

Roast potatoes, buttery mash, Yorkshire pudding, cauliflower cheese and seasonal vegetables to share.
Bottomless gravy
Homemade, and we will keep bringing it.
Tables are booked for 90 minutes. A discretionary 10% service charge is added to the bill.
Sunday lunch questions
Do I need to book for Sunday lunch?
Strongly recommended. Sunday is our busiest service and we do sell out, particularly between 1pm and 3pm. Tables are booked for 90 minutes.
What time is the roast served until?
The kitchen runs from 12pm until 5pm on a Sunday. The bar stays open afterwards.
Where does the meat come from?
All our meat comes from our local butcher, Beef Olive.
Is the gravy really bottomless?
It is. Homemade, and we will keep bringing it.
Is there a vegetarian option?
There is no vegetarian roast on a Sunday, but there are vegetarian dishes — the vegetable lasagne and the mushroom gnocchi are both on and both good. Worth mentioning when you book so we can make sure we have them.
Are dogs welcome?
Very. Dogs are welcome in the bar on a Sunday, and we will find you a spot. The restaurant stays dog-free during service.
